BIG RAPIDS — The Ferris State University Bulldogs will face Pittsburgh State (Kan.) in the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs on Saturday at Top Taggart Field.

The official kick-off time is set at 1 p.m. Ferris, the defending national champion, is 10-1. Pittsburg State is 12-0 and beat Indianapolis 35-0 last week.

FSU is in the midst of its eighth consecutive NCAA Division II playoff berth and began its quest for the national championship as the No. 2 seed in Super Region Three, beating Davenport 41-7 last week. in Big Rapids. The Bulldogs are currently 10-1 on aggregate this season and will face the undefeated 12-0 Gorillas, who won the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) title this fall, for the first time ever.

“Less 2020 when we didn’t play because of COVID,” Ferris State coach Tony Annes said, “we played Thanksgiving week and the last time we didn’t was that. was in 2013 when we were 8-3 and didn’t make the playoffs. It’s such a blessing. You can be in the playoffs and lose in the first round, then you can’t play Thanksgiving.
