CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI men’s basketball returns home Saturday afternoon for a showdown against neighboring Northern Illinois University Huskies after Thanksgiving at 1 p.m. CT at the McLeod Center.

The Panthers are looking to win their fourth straight game against the Huskies (2-4) to start a long home stretch to close out 2022. Seven of UNI’s next nine games are scheduled to be played at the McLeod Center, where the Panthers hold a 77.8 all-time winning percentage.

UNI PANTHERS
UNI is looking to slide three games this Saturday after losing back-to-back games at the Hall of Fame Classic earlier this week in Kansas City. The Panthers shot 63% off the field in the first half of their opening game against San Francisco, but were chilled in the second half with a 75-69 loss by the Dons. Jacob Betz led with a career-best 19 points for UNI as Bowen born scored 14 points.

In the second game against the Grand Canyon, the Panthers struggled to score against the Antelopes in the opening stanza, but made a furious second-half comeback in the final minute, only to fail 69-67. Born recorded a game-high 19 points in the loss Tytan Anderson recorded his third straight game with a double-double and scored 18 points with 12 rebounds. Michael Duax, just making his second career start, scored 11 points while Trey Campbell scored 10 points in the loss.

NORTHERN ILLINOIS HUSKIES
The Huskies have struggled in recent years, coming off a difficult 9-21 season and a 6-14 mark in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) a year ago. The Huskies, ranked 12th in the MAC preseason poll, have not made the top half of the league standings since a second-place finish in the 2005-06 season.

Junior guard Keshawn Williams leads Northern Illinois with an average of 17 points per game while David Coit has averaged 14.7 points per contest while also leading the Huskies with a team-high 20 three-pointers. Zarique Nutter leads by just over 7 rebounds per game, while Anthony Crump has hit 5.3 boards per game along with a team-high 9 steals.

The Huskies come to Cedar Falls after losing two of their last three games as part of the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off. Northern Illinois lost its opening game at Georgia Tech 68-50 in Atlanta last week before falling short in an 88-54 loss to Sam Houston State in Florida on Tuesday. The Huskies rebounded Wednesday night with an 86-61 win over Long Island in which Williams led with 28 points on 10-of-17 shots from the floor.
