Suzanne M. “Susie” Swart Wilhelm, 79, of Taylorstown, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, November 6, 2022.

She was born on January 16, 1943 in Washington, the daughter of the late Robert and Ann Kanalis Swart.

Susie graduated from Washington High School in 1960 and Washington Hospital School of Nursing in 1963, where she earned her registered nursing degree. She then worked as a psychiatric nurse at Mayview State Hospital. Susie ended her career as a nurse at SCI Greene.

On September 21, 1963, she married J. Adrian “Gus” Wilhelm. Susie and Gus were happily married until his death on August 22, 1998.

Susie is survived by her daughter, Christy Wilhelm of Spartansburg; daughter, Kathy Williams (Frank) of Taylorstown; son, Billy Wilhelm of Taylorstown; and his daughter, Michelle Wilhelm Strope, of Somerset; grandchildren, Lauren, Chad and Adrian Nagy, Sam Williams, Anna Whitfield (Erik) and Sarah and Jack Strope; sister, Elizabeth Silvers (Stewart); brother, Chris Swart; and his sister, Paula Waldron (Michael); as well as several nieces and nephews.

Over the course of her career, Susie has taught Lamaze natural childbirth classes to dozens of expectant parents. She was a strong supporter of women’s rights. Susie was deeply selfless and contributed to many charities including Autism Speaks, World Wildlife Foundation, Planned Parenthood, The Obama Foundation, Nature Conservatory, City Mission, LGBTQ, Human Rights Campaign, International Rescue, Doctors Without Borders, IFAW Animal Rescue , Audubon Society and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Susie was an avid reader and enjoyed a wide variety of music and television. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 2 to 7 p.m. funeral time on Friday, November 11, 2022 at Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Ave., Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Owner/Supervisor, Holly Renay Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, Park N. Crosier, director. The burial will be private.
