FAIRFIELD — Former Will C. Wood High School graduate Asa Wondeh had his best game yet as a junior wide receiver for the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds soccer team on Saturday.

Wondeh made 15 catches for 147 yards and a touchdown when Eastern New Mexico took a 24-21 win at West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas. The touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard completion by quarterback Kason Martin.

Wondeh has 47 catches for 798 yards and six touchdowns this season. He also returned 10 punts for 132 yards. This comes one season after five 100-yard receiving games at Sacramento City College before being transferred to the Portales, New Mexico campus.

The win helped eastern New Mexico to 3-7 overall on the season. The Greyhounds close out the regular season this week in the senior day rivalry game against Western New Mexico in what is known locally as the Chile Bowl.

Senior linebacker Armon Bailey (Vanden), one of the defensive leaders for undefeated Sacramento State, had one solo tackle and nine assists as the Hornets improved to 9-0 with a 33-30 win over Weber State. Sacramento State heads to Portland this week as the nation’s No. 2 team in the Football Championship Series.

Junior center Jake Levengood (Vacaville) and his Oregon state teammates lost 24-21 in Washington on Friday night. The Beavers still managed to rack up 262 yards of offense and three touchdowns, all the while giving up just one sack. Oregon State is now 6-3 and will try to recover this week with a home game against Cal.

Sophomore linebacker Zion Booker (St. Patrick-St. Vincent) made six solo tackles, two of them for loss, when Pacific dropped a 28-17 decision against Whitworth. The Fairfield native and the Boxers will try to break their 4-4 record on Pacific Lutheran.

The defensive end of sophomore Emmitt Espino (Armijo) collected one sack for minus-6 yards for Minot State in a 17-10 win over University of Mary. The Beavers are 1-9 and will play at Concordia University of St. Paul, Minnesota this week.

Graduate student and defensive lineman Muhindo Kapapa (Armijo) registered three pass breaks and a quarterback rush when San Diego lost to Butler 33-26. The Toreros are 3-5 and will play at home against Davidson this week.

Senior punter Zach McLellan (Will C. Wood) kicked four punts for a total of 125 yards for Adams State, averaging 31.2 yards per punt over a 35-yard run. The Grizzlies fell to 2-8 after losing 38-7 to Black Hills. Adams State is closing the regular season in Western Colorado this week.

Volleyball for women

Junior setter Camille Rivers (Vacaville) had 19 assists and four counts in a 3-0 win over Hawaii-Hilo and 29 assists and 10 counts in a 3-1 loss to Chaminade.

Junior setter Kayla Somonton (Vacaville, Solano) recorded one kill, 28 assists and 14 digs for Simpson in a 3-2 loss to Merced and one kill, 21 assists and nine digs in a 3-0 win over Pacific Union College. Junior setter Emily Hanson (Buckingham) had two assists for Simpson in the Pacific Union game.

Senior middle blocker Lindsey McLaughlin (Rodriguez, Solano) knocked down 18 kills, four blocks and one dig for Cal Poly Humboldt in a 3-2 loss at Cal State San Marcus and 15 kills, three blocks and three digs in a 3-2 loss Cal State East Bay.

Junior middle blocker Megan Stanek (Vacaville Christian) contributed two kills, seven blocks and three digs to Linfield in a 3-2 loss to Whitworth and had two kills, five blocks and one dig in a 3-1 loss to Whitman.

Sophomore winger Taylor Whyte (Vanden) had three kills and three blocks for Chico State in a 3-2 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Freshman middle batter Lauren Whyte (Vanden) registered three kills and three blocks in the 3-2 win over Chico.

Freshman outside hitter Mylie Moli (Bethel, Solano) joined Maine-Fort Kent in two games against Fisher in Boston. Moli had four kills, two blocks and three digs in a 3-0 win and five kills and 12 digs in a 3-2 loss.

women’s football

Sophomore forward Summer Baron (DaVinci Charter) played 50 minutes and had two shots on target for Chico in a 2-1 loss to Sonoma State in the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament.

Graduate student and defenseman Abby Wolf (Armijo) had two shots on target and played 90 minutes for the University of the Pacific in a 1-0 win over Loyola Marymount. Wolf also had a shot on target and played the full 90 minutes in a 3-0 win over San Diego.

Men’s Basketball

Senior guard Jordan Adams (Vacaville, Solano) helped William Jessup to a couple of wins. Adams had six points and eight rebounds in an 82-68 win over UC Merced and went for 21 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and one block in a 93-88 win over Southern Oregon.

Senior guard Braxton Adderly (Rodriguez, Napa Valley) had five points, three rebounds and an assist for Cal Maritime in a 79-73 loss to Westmont.

Senior forward Jay Nagle (Will C. Wood) had one point, one assist and three steals for Idaho State in a 60-56 loss to BYU to open the season.

Sophomore guard Teiano Hardee (Vanden) hit a three-pointer for Sacramento State in the season opener, a 76-50 loss at UCLA.

Junior forward Landon Seaman (Will C. Wood) contributed six points, five rebounds and one blocked shot for Menlo in a 73-63 loss against Southern Oregon. He then had 14 points, six rebounds, one steal and one assist in an 82-59 win over UC Merced.

Professional football

Linebacker Mykal Walker (Vacaville) had four solo tackles and five assists for the Atlanta Falcons in a 20-17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Walker and the Falcons are 4-5, playing Thursday night in Carolina in the game streamed live on Amazon Prime around the world.
