SIOUX FALLS, SD – A total of 11 student cross-country athletes, six men and five women, were named to the 2022 Academic All-Summit League teams. Runners will be selected for the award based on their academic and athletic achievements during the 2022 cross-country season.

South Dakota State’s Tom Breuckman was honored on the men’s side for the third time in his career, while teammate and 2022 Summit League Men’s Cross Country Scholar of the Championship Daniel Burkhalter received his second straight career. South Dakota’s Charlie Babcock and St. Thomas’ Zach Haire were also selected to the Academic All-League team for the second year in a row.

Kansas City’s Feuerbacher and North Dakota’s Luke Labatte each earned their first career honors.

For the women, 2022 Summit League Women’s Cross Country Scholar of the Championship McKenzie Burian of North Dakota was the only familiar face on the team. She received the award for the second time in her career. The remaining quartet of honorees received the award for the first time, including Fighting Hawk’s Jadyn Keeler, South Dakota’s Abrielle Jirele, North Dakota State’s Grace Link and Western Illinois’ Paulina Wuestfeld.

To qualify for the Academic All-League Team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), have completed at least one full academic year at the current institution, and be at 50 percent of which took part in their team’s competitions.

Nominations are brought in by Sports Information Directors of the league’s institutions that carry Cross Country, and voting is conducted by both SIDs and Facility Athletic Representatives (FARs). Each team consists of the 5 student-athletes receiving the most votes, with all ties standing.
