After Clemson’s 72-51 win over Georgia Tech on Tuesday night, head coach Brad Brownell met with the media.
The main takeaways are below.
“Very crafty win for us I thought. Really happy with the way our boys played. We came out really ready. Brevin (Galloway) took a couple of shots which helps. Give the Georgia Tech kids Credit we have them on our heels but they regrouped and played a lot better later in the first half, our lads did a good job in the second half just playing right what we had to do, very efficiently. A few too many turnovers, but defensively a lot of good things.
“It’s good to see a lot of my young freshmen being productive and getting more opportunities because of bad problems.
“Proud of how the team approached and played today’s game. Good win.”
– Said around Christmas when freshman Chauncey Wiggins “started taking some steps”. Wiggins’ attitude is something Clemson recognized when recruiting.
Said Wiggins can shoot and pass and sees things offensively. Must rebound better.
His development over the past month has really taken another leap.
“He gets an open shot and he’s not afraid to shoot in.”
– Said freshman Dillon Hunter, starting his first game of the season, defended at a high level. Did a good job incorporating Clemson into his plays. Wasn’t afraid.
– Thought there was an outside chance Chase Hunter could play but they really want him (and Alex Hemenway) to be comfortable before they go back out there. Might come back this weekend.
“I’m just trying to be extremely careful. I just felt like we give them two more days (Tuesday and Wednesday) and then see how they are on Thursday and Friday and if it works it works and if it’s not good another few days .”
— Pleased with the entire team recovering last night.
— Said competitive spirit from PJ Hall and Hunter Tyson is at a high level.
Hall has become more comfortable and no longer really thinks about his injury when playing basketball.
“Obviously that was a big part of our success. We’re not where we are if PJ isn’t playing well.”
— Said “dream big, focus small” is what the team is currently marinating about. Said team has been talking a lot about No Limits this year.
“We play, let’s see what we can do and don’t set ourselves any limits. ‘No limits, no excuses, no regrets’ was what we talked about this year. That really came from meeting Hunter Tyson this summer.”
Said Tyson did a really good job with this message.
— Said the students had been phenomenal all year. Overall good turnout last night.
“It’s a lot of fun. It’s great to be in this environment. Littlejohn is a hell of a place to play. Our fans are very passionate about their team.”
