Eddie Hearn threatens Jake Paul with potential lawsuit over ‘idiotic’ fight fixing allegations

Jack Paul’s allegations about potential fighting problems could lead to a lawsuit from Matchroom CEO Eddie Hearn.

The threat of legal action comes amid Paul’s comments to boxing judge Glenn Feldman after he provided a pair of puzzling scorecards in a recent bout involving an athlete promoted by Matchroom. In particular, Paul’s anger at Feldman began when he beat Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor by the biggest score of any referee in their April bout.

“I still think Amanda Serrano won the fight [over Katie Taylor],” Paul told IFL TV. “And then you see how this judge, Glenn Feldman, has the widest gap between Taylor and Serrano. Almost everyone had a tie… tie or Amanda won. But there was this judge, Glenn Feldman, who played such a big gap for Taylor, handing Taylor the bout that Amanda clearly won.

“Then this judge Glenn Feldman showed up in Saudi and gave Anthony Joshua the win [over Oleksandr Usyk]. all who watch the fight [knows] This is not a divisive decision. Usyk took a runaway victory and clearly won the fight. This judge, Glenn Feldman, gave it to Anthony Joshua? It’s like repeat crime here. This type of ***, I’m going to shout it out in boxing because it’s a bull ***. Apparently this guy made his money by matchbox boxing. “

In response, Hearn hit back at Paul while mentioning that legal action could be taken against the YouTube celebrity-turned-boxer for defaming the name of his promotion.

“I hate it all, but at the end of the day, sometimes you have to teach these people,” Hearn told Boxing Social. “You really have two options – you can scold him or sue him. I’m not around him and I’m not going to give him a chin anyway. I hate it, but it’s like it’s so stupid it’s actually against him Disrespect for a movement that knows nothing.

“First he said ‘Why does Eddie Hearn keep using these judges? I don’t use any judges. This committee selects all the judges and various committees around the world. Glenn Feldman is the best judge by the way One, talking to anyone in the sport. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Making these allegations really pissed me off and upset me. It actually got me a step further.”

According to Hearn, the only thing that would have avoided a possible lawsuit would be Paul’s public culpability after the accusations of damnation he made.

“I want him to formally apologize, and if he doesn’t, then we’ll see what we have to do,” Hearn said. “But I’m not letting our name in this business and the integrity of what we do be defamed. Some eccentric who doesn’t know what he’s talking about is so important to us and our love for the sport.

“Listen, he’s good for the sport, we laughed, he’s normal, he doesn’t like me, Tyler Serrano, etc. That’s another level. So it’ll be dealt with.”

Despite Paul’s claims, Hearn said a potential rematch between Taylor and Serrano would not be doomed because he understood the importance of a second fight between two of the world’s best women’s boxers.

The first fight ended in 10 rounds, and Hearn said he wouldn’t be doing his job if he let Paul’s charges somehow derail such a massive rematch.

“Yes [I would continue to work with him] Because that’s my job,” Hearn said. “It’s not about me or Matchroom. It is my job to serve my warriors. Amanda Serrano and Katie Taylor have a huge payday and they’ll be showing the public part 2 of one of the best fights we’ve ever seen. We should all strive to achieve this.

“I’m not going to suddenly say ‘Katie Taylor, you can’t fight Amanda Serrano because Jack Paul said some stupid things’, but in the end we have to defend ourselves, we have to do what we do Stand up. Believe.”
