How do student relationships work?

As students walk around campus, there is a chance they will stop at each other and start socializing, forming a friendship or starting a romantic relationship. Friendships and romantic relationships work the same way, as students will be able to improve and level up their relationships Level 1 (Crush), Level 2 (Encounters), Level 3 (Sweethearts) and Level 4 (Soulmates).

But stopping your hallway crush isn’t the most effective way to fall in love. Once a relationship is initiated, they start at level 1, but students can only level up their romance by using relationship elements that you can place on campus. The happiness of the students will improve more when their relationships are at higher levels.

You can control which elements will enhance romantic relationships in theirs description box before you buy them, but each element of the relationship is assigned a level that will influence the students who can use them. For example, a relationship element at levels 1-2 can only be used by couples at relationship level 1 until they reach the dating level. At this point, attending students can use level 3 items and so on. The Love Bench item is the only item that will have a level 1 relationship with a level 2 dating situationso you will want to place them first.

As you may have noticed, many of the elements of the relationship are for the outside, which means you have to consider different things. For instance, make sure your campus outside is well heatedotherwise students may get sick after socializing, or simply avoid socializing outdoors altogether.

You can also see a breakdown of your student’s dating life in the Campus Overview Menu. This page will detail how many relationships are on your campus, what level they are at, and how happy your students are in their relationships.
