CANYON, Texas- The Lady Buffs continue their road swing Thursday night as they head to Lawton, Oklahoma for the Lone Star Conference divisional action against the Cameron Aggies, with the start scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Aggie Gym.
The Patriots of UT Tyler shot 64.3% in the first half as they scored 27 points on their way to a 76-54 Lone Star Conference crossover win over then-No. 17 Lady Buffs at the Herrington Patriot Center on Saturday afternoon led Tyler, Texas at the break.
Nyalam Thabach led the way for the Lady Buffs as the Boise, Idaho, junior hit 7-of-10 from the floor, including 1-of-4 from depth and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line, for a team-high 21 go with six rebounds, an assist and a steal. Lauren Taylor scored 10 points as the senior guard went 4-of-11 off the floor to keep up with eight boards, an assist and two steals.
A LOOK AT THE AGGIES
The Aggies go into the weekend with a 9-10 overall record and a 6-7 mark in the Lone Star Conference after losing to the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lady Lions 64-59 in Lawton last Saturday. The Aggies are 6-2 at Aggie Gym so far this season.
Korie Allensworth goes offensively for the Aggies as Sulpher, Oklahoma’s second guard has 80 of 174 (46%) off the floor, including 23 of 65 (35.4%) from behind the arc and 40 of – 58 (69 %) from the free throw line to an average of 11.7 points per game, plus 72 rebounds (12 offensive, 60 defensive), 22 assists, 22 steals and a block.
Cameron ended the 2021-22 season with a 17-11 overall record with an 11-5 mark in LSC action as they advanced to the quarter-finals round of the LSC Championship. The Aggies clinched an 88-85 home win over Eastern New Mexico before losing 80-65 to Texas A&M-Commerce at the Comerica Center.
CU HEAD COACH JEFF MAHONEY
Jeff Mahoney was named head coach of the Aggie women’s basketball program in May 2022 after three seasons as an assistant coach. While on the bench for Cameron, Mahoney helped the Aggies to 41 wins, including 17 in 2022, the most in 20 years. In addition to his time as the women’s assistant coach, Mahoney also took over the reins of the men’s squad midway through the 2021-22 season.
Sunday afternoon marks the 55th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Aggies as WT has a 49-5 advantage in the streak dating back to 1982. The Lady Buffs are 20-4 all-time at Aggie Gym as they canceled their last two trips to Lawton.

Ashland picked up all 23 first-place votes with a total of 575 points to remain at the top of the poll, followed by Drury (548), Tampa (516), Texas Woman’s (470), Glenville State (458), Cal State Dominguez Hills (454). ), Central Missouri (432), Grand Valley State (408), Eckerd (365), and Minnesota Duluth (355) to round out the top ten. The South Central Region was represented by Texas Woman’s (4th), Colorado School of Mines (14th), Angelo State (25th) and West Texas A&M (RV).
WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock is entering his second season at the helm of the Lady Buff Basketball program after leading WT to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in his debut season at Maroon & White and finishing the campaign with an overall record of 26-11 as WT won the LSC Regular Season won and tournament titles followed by a run to the South Central Regional Championship.
HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M is home to one of the best multipurpose facilities in the country, as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. FUBC earned an 87.7% clip during that time. WT has averaged 1,025 fans per competition since the facility opened, with the biggest crowd coming on opening night with 4,941 Buff Nation members watching the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.

The Lady Buffs garnered 31 of the 39 possible first-place votes for a total of 612 points to sit at the top of the poll, followed by Lubbock Christian (four first-place finishers, 557), Texas Woman’s (four first-place finishers, 538), Angelo State (519), UT Tyler (479), Texas A&M-Kingsville (408), Texas A&M International (371), Cameron (347), Midwestern State (314), Eastern New Mexico (233), St. Edward’s (219) , UAFS (216), UT Permian Basin (172), Oklahoma Christian (154), St. Mary’s (94), and Western New Mexico (71).
The 2022-23 LSC basketball schedule will feature 16 women’s teams across two divisions. Each team plays a dual round-robin schedule within its division. Additionally, the teams play eight crossover competitions against the opposing division for a total of 22 LSC games.
HOME OF THE CHAMPIONS
West Texas A&M is home to one of the most successful athletic programs in all of Division II.
During the 2021-22 season, WT won six Lone Star Conference Championships, three LSC Tournament Crowns, two Regional Championships, and four Top 5 track and field finishes including the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Women’s National Championship. 2022-23 has already started on a high with WT Volleyball winning the program’s fourth national title in early December.
