NEW ORLEANS, La.- The New Orleans men’s basketball program (6-12, 3-4 SLC) meets Southeastern (11-9, 5-2 SLC) in back-to-back matchups beginning Thursday night in Hammond and ending Saturday afternoon at Lakefront. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. Both games will air on ESPN+ and NASH 106.1 FM, with Jude Young calling the action.
As the Privateers enter week five of the Southland Conference, they are seventh with UIW. New Orleans remains the league leader in the three-point percentage with 37.7 points and had a season-high 13 three-pointers at HCU to start conference play.
Jordan Johnson and Tyson Jackson are both averaging double figures in Southland Conference play. Johnson also leads New Orleans with a team-high 17.0 points per game in field goals made (36-81), three pointers made (23-48), free throws made (24-27) and assists (37). over seven games. Johnson leads the Southland with a .465 three-point percentage and has hit double digits in six of their last seven games.
Jackson is currently averaging 11.6 points per game and leads New Orleans in defensive rebounds (32). The junior has scored 31 of his 41 field goals and fielded two double-doubles in conference play.
Simeon Kirkland Leads the Privateers in rebounds in conference play at 6.9 per game. Last week, the senior hit a season-high at Lakefront and led his team to Texas A&M – Commerce in the fall with 15 points and nine rebounds.
New Orleans is averaging 70.8 points per game on 45.4% shooting, including 37.7% from above. Their opponents score an annual average of 79.6 points per game and hit 48.1% from the field, with 36.9% off the arc.
New Orleans leads the overall series against Southeastern 17-10, despite falling to the Lions in a 74-65 elimination game at the 2022 Southland Conference Tournament.
Southeastern earned a 79-73 win over Texas A&M-Commerce and quickly returned to victory just two days after ending its best four-game winning streak. Boogie Anderson, who missed Saturday’s game against Texas A&M-Commerce, still leads the Southeastern this season averaging 12.5 points per game on 47.3% shooting.
Southeastern averaged 77.3 points per game for the season and hit 44.5% of their shots this season, including 35.7% from above the three-point arc. SLU opponents average 76.8 points per game with 45.8% shooting and 37.6% hitting from outside the arc.
