Parkview Health System and UCHealth have signed an agreement to bring the two healthcare providers together. The partnership will provide investments to strengthen health services currently available in Pueblo and throughout southern Colorado. The organizations signed the definitive agreement on January 24, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on October 7, 2022.

“One of UCHealth’s strategic priorities is to help Colorado residents access the care they need close to home,” said Elizabeth B. Concordia, President and CEO of UCHealth. “Together, Parkview and UCHealth will support patients in Pueblo and throughout southern Colorado while expanding access to advanced treatments and clinical trials.”

When Parkview and its employees join UCHealth in mid-2023, UCHealth will begin investing nearly $200 million in Parkview and the Pueblo community, including:

  • A $5 million donation to the Parkview Foundation to establish a long-term fund to support patients, the community and the hospital.
  • Assistance in recruiting excellent staff and doctors.
  • Support for nursing and clinical education programs.
  • Capital investment to upgrade Parkview’s facilities, equipment and technology.
  • Continued partnerships with local universities and community colleges to develop Colorado’s healthcare workforce.
  • Help stabilize Parkview’s finances and continue the services we offer today.

“In recent years, health services in Pueblo and southern Colorado have been negatively impacted by the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Leslie Barnes, President and CEO of Parkview Health System. “We are excited to join UCHealth as this partnership will strengthen care in our community and ensure patients and residents here continue to have access to quality care provided by our dedicated physicians, progressive practice providers and staff.”

Parkview already uses UCHealth’s electronic medical record and other IT systems, and this expanded partnership will build on an already successful collaboration.

Parkview and UCHealth will maintain a local Parkview Board of Directors composed primarily of Puebloans who will continue to provide oversight of service and quality, and Parkview’s local leadership team will ensure patients receive the best possible care. Parkview will continue to be the largest employer in Pueblo. Parkview’s employees, vendors and officers will remain in their positions and their current benefits will continue for the foreseeable future.

UCHealth and Parkview expect the partnership to be complete in mid-2023, subject to customary regulatory approvals.

As a nonprofit healthcare system and the state’s largest Medicaid provider, UCHealth is dedicated to the communities it serves. In fiscal 2022, UCHealth provided more than $1.1 billion in total community service, including $388 million in unpaid care, earning it 2nd place in the country for social responsibility by the Lown Institute.
