Texas A&M quarterback and former five-star contender Conner Weigman He is not expected to play baseball for the Aggies in 2023 after being recruited by the university as a two-sport athlete. Weigman was exclusively with the football team in the spring of 2022 after enrolling early in college. The touted signal caller began the 2022 football season as a third-string quarterback but was the team’s starter through the end of the year after suffering an injury in Week 1 Haynes King and fuse Max Johnson.
Texas A&M enjoyed a 2022 baseball season in which the Aggies reached the College World Series in their first season under coaching Jim Schlossnagle, who had previously been at TCU for almost two decades. Schlossnagle previously led the Horned Frogs to five CWS trips, including four straight from 2014-17. Texas A&M faced TCU in the Regionals last June, beating Schlossnagle’s former team to advance.
“He knows he’s more than welcome down here anytime,” Schlossnagle said of Weigman ahead of the 2022 baseball season, per The Bryan College Station Eagle. “He has a locker if he just wants to come down and bat in the batting cages by himself. But he is focused on football.”
When he enrolled in January 2022, Weigman was expected to eventually play the sport after spending his freshman semester and spring training adjusting to campus life and college football. But that all changed when he was pushed into a starting role sooner than expected following the aforementioned injuries to King and Johnson. Weigman now wants to be the Aggies’ starter in 2023, and King is out of the program altogether.
Weigman’s late-season stretch as QB1 for Texas A&M in 2022 came amid the team’s October loss in South Carolina. Though he failed to rally the Aggies to a win in the 30-24 loss, he completed 8 of 15 passes for 103 yards. Weigman got two shots into the end zone for the game win, but both pass attempts missed the goal line.
