Updated Commanders depth chart following moves at CB, LB and TE on Wednesday

Commanders announced their “initial” roster Tuesday to comply with NFL rules that call for teams to be reduced to 53 players.

On Wednesday, the team announced several initiatives, with another reportedly expected to be officially announced on Thursday.

Add to

The team announced that they had received waivers from two cornerbacks: Tariq Castro-Fields and Ratchad Wild Goose. Castro-Fields was a 6th-round pick in this year’s Penn State draft, while Wildgoose was a 6th-round pick a year ago and has been active in the final 4 games of the 21 season, playing just 2 defenses Fast break, but 28 snapshots of special teams.

Late Wednesday, reports surfaced that the veteran center linebacker Jon BostickReleased by the Saints on Tuesday, will re-sign with Washington. Bostic previously spent three seasons in Washington with two different coaching staffs, but his 2021 season ended with a chest injury in early October.

release

The team announced Wednesday that two backup linebackers have been released: DeJoan Harris and David Mayo.

injured reserve

It is reported that the team plans to arrange a rookie tight end Curtis Hodges On the injured reserve Thursday, freeing up the roster space needed to sign Bostic.

Hodges had an impressive preseason, and the coaching staff seemed keen to keep him for as long as possible.

By placing Hodges on IR and designating a return, Hodges will be eligible to return to the active roster when healthy sometime after Week 4 of the regular season. According to NFL rules, if a commander places him on the IR by 4 p.m. Tuesday, the player will not be able to return to the commanding roster in 2022 and will not be able to play for any other team unless released by the IR this year later.

Update depth map

The number that appears next to some players’ names is the 2022 cap hits per Over the Cap.

Note that the location and color coding of assignments is my personal opinion. They don’t necessarily represent the thinking of Washington coaches or front office, nor do they necessarily match the consensus of fans. This chart represents my interpretation and may not reflect what other writers think about Hogs Haven. Finally, when it comes to bench players, I don’t put much effort into making sure they’re right around or behind the specific player they’re benching. I’m mostly just trying to fit everyone on the chart efficiently.

The team may not have completed the roster change yet. One question mark hovering over the roster has to do with the health of the rookie running back and third-round pick, Brian Robinson, he was shot twice during an attempted carjacking over the weekend. Teams could choose to put Robinson on the NFI (non-football-related injury) reserve list, but if they did, the running back, like Curtis Hodges, would have to miss at least 4 weeks of the regular season.
